CYRO Industries Introduces ACRYLITE® HEATSTOP Acrylic Sheet For Skylights, Light Domes and Related Products

Unique Design Helps Reduce Facility Energy Consumption Compared to Alternative Domed Roof Light Products, Making it Well Suited for ‘Green’ Designs

Parsippany – May 15, 2008 – CYRO Industries, a subsidiary of Evonik Degussa Corporation, introduces ACRYLITE® HEATSTOP acrylic sheet, an infrared-reflecting polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) that has a number of performance advantages to make it well suited for “green” buildings. Specially designed for domed roof light applications, ACRYLITE HEATSTOP sheet reflects a large portion of incident solar radiation to limit the amount of heat entering a building while allowing an abundance of natural sunlight, thereby helping reduce energy consumption.

An alternative to conventional glass and other materials used for light domes, skylights, and related designs, ACRYLITE HEATSTOP sheet is a continuously manufactured acrylic sheet product incorporating proprietary IR reflective technology that is free from heavy metals. The result is a product that brings aesthetic and financial benefits.

Due to its favorable light diffusion, ACRYLITE HEATSTOP provides even and uniform natural lighting, while its IR reflecting properties help to reduce energy costs. In fact, if ACRYLITE HEATSTOP sheet is used in place of traditional acrylic glazing materials, average annual air conditioning costs can be lowered by as much as one third. At the same time, ACRYLITE HEATSTOP sheet also allows natural sunlight to illuminate interiors, reducing dependence on electrical lighting.

Another benefit is that, because ACRYLITE HEATSTOP sheet strongly diffuses light, it does not create harsh variations in brightness and the resultant shadows. The design of ACRYLITE HEATSTOP sheet also produces installation advantages, as it can be cold-curved and thermoformed to fit a variety of designs.

ACRYLITE HEATSTOP sheet comes in three standard thicknesses; custom thicknesses are also available. The sheet is a translucent white in color, but the tint will vary slightly depending on the viewing conditions and incident lighting.
