CYRO Receives Safety Award from Arkansas Department of Labor
One Million Work Hours Without a Lost-Time Injury
Rockaway, NJ – July 8, 2005
The Osceola, AR plant of acrylics manufacturer CYRO Industries has received a One Million Work Hour Safety Award from the Arkansas Department of Labor and the Arkansas Workers’ Compensation Commission. This award is presented to companies whose employees work one million hours without missing a full day of employment due to a work-related injury. The award was presented to CYRO in a ceremony held at the Osceola plant on June 29, 2005.
CYRO’s Osceola plant, one of only 16 companies receiving this prestigious award in the 2004-2005 fiscal year, produces continuously manufactured ACRYLITE® acrylic sheet and resin used for applications such as Point-of-Purchase displays, store fixtures, signage, automotive products and framing. The facility’s 144 employees logged the one million working hours without a lost-time injury from October 26, 2001 through March 5, 2005.
“We have a strong commitment from management to provide a safe workplace for our employees,” states Ed Smith, Safety, Health, and Environmental Manager at CYRO’s Osceola facility. The company has several programs in place to foster a safe work environment. One example is the company’s CAPP process (CYRO’s Accident Prevention Process). This safety process encourages employees to regularly observe one another in accordance with a specific list of guidelines, such as utilizing proper lifting techniques, wearing protective equipment and using proper tools. After the evaluation, the observer provides positive feedback to the observed in an effort to correct at-risk behavior.
CYRO is also an Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Star facility. OSHA implemented this program to recognize companies making outstanding efforts to manage worker safety, including having an injury rate lower than the national average and successfully undergoing on-site inspections.
