Alkyl / Aryl Methacrylates

Alkyl methacrylates are mainly employed for manufacturing polymeric binders, generally known as synthetic resins. Acrylic occupies a special position among these and is almost exclusively manufactured from methyl methacrylate. The methacrylic polymers owe their very good weather resistance to their pure aliphatic structure and the steric shielding of the polymer chain.

They are subject to virtually no oxidative degradation or ester splitting. Our products enable adjustment of the softening temperature of copolymers from approx. -70 °C to 110 °C. Long-chain esters such as lauryl and stearyl methacrylate already show wax-like polymer properties. Esters with a strongly branched alcohol basis provide polymers with reduced solution viscosity.
